threesomes, foursomes and twosomes
The scheduler has a defined way of determining how many foursomes, threesomes and twosomes will be in a round. First, it tries to have as many foursomes as possible. If the entire group size is 16, for example, there will be 4 foursomes. But what if the group size is not a multiple of 4? In most cases, it will create schedule with as many foursomes as possible and as few threesomes as necessary. If the group size is 10, there will be one foursome and two threesomes. If the groups size is 14, there will be 2 foursomes and 2 threesomes.
There is one exception. If a round (after removing golfers who have been designated as missing) is even but not a multiple of 4, AND there is a tournament in this round that is organized around pairs (e.g., best ball of pair vs. field), the schedule will contain one twosome and the rest foursomes. This is done so that partners are always together.
